Keeping With Kennedy's Advice, Measles Patients Turn to Unproven Treatments
Briefly

In West Texas, public health officials are grappling with a serious measles outbreak, with nearly 260 cases reported and escalating concerns over unproven remedies advocated by health secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Many residents are postponing necessary medical treatment, which has resulted in severe cases and even death. Hospitals are emphasizing the urgency of recognizing measles symptoms for timely medical attention, as some children have resorted to alternative treatments instead. The situation has drawn attention to the pressing need for following established medical advice during this health crisis.
I'm worried we have kids and parents that are taking all of these other medications and then delaying care, said Katherine Wells, director of public health in Lubbock, Texas.
If they're so, so sick and have low oxygen levels, they should have been in the hospital a day or two earlier, she said.
Texas health officials believe the true number of cases is far higher.
In all, there have been 301 measles cases in the United States this year, the highest number since 2019.
