I'm using my maternity leave to go backpacking around the world - people say I'm crazy but I don't care
Briefly

Esther Draycott, a UK midwife, chose to spend her maternity leave backpacking around Southeast Asia with her newborn son and family. Inspired by a fellow mother's blog post, she dismissed naysayers and booked a six-month adventure after giving birth to her second child, Reuben. The family's journey consists of 11 countries, balancing travel and health concerns with comprehensive travel insurance. Although relatives expressed disappointment over missing Reuben's first year, they supported the family's unique opportunity to explore the world together.
A lot of people thought our plans were crazy; I don't think they believed we were going ahead with it until we booked the flights.
[The idea to travel the world came after our] honeymoon in Thailand. [Daniel and I] fell in love with Southeast Asia.
We didn't book the flights until Reuben was born and we knew we were both healthy enough to travel.
My biggest fear was our health while we're away but I was treated for a sinus infection... and I made sure we took out comprehensive travel insurance.
