On April 6, ICE arrested 25-year-old Alexander Steven Jimbo-Perez, an illegally present Ecuadoran national with a violent criminal history, in New York City. This arrest was part of a weeklong operation that targeted high-risk offenders, resulting in a total of 206 arrests. Jimbo-Perez's criminal record includes charges for assault, child endangerment, and harassment. ICE officials emphasize that individuals like him pose risks to community safety and often evade deportation due to local jurisdictions' non-cooperation with immigration detainers. He currently awaits further immigration proceedings in federal custody.
"This enhanced enforcement operation focused on the most dangerous alien offenders," said acting ICE Director Todd M. Lyons, who called the effort essential to public safety.
ICE officials said individuals like Jimbo-Perez pose a risk to public safety and often remain in local communities due to non-cooperation from jurisdictions that decline to honor immigration detainers.
