Governor Kathy Hochul announced that following U.S. military strikes against Iran’s nuclear infrastructure, law enforcement across New York is on heightened alert due to threats from Iran. Although there are no specific threats reported, agencies like the MTA and Port Authority are on standby for counterterrorism, and state police are increasing patrols in vulnerable areas. Governor Hochul expressed concern for the safety of community members, especially those connected to Jewish and Muslim communities, while hoping for peace and safety for troops involved.
I recognize this is a time of fear and uncertainty for New Yorkers. We have some of America's largest Jewish and Muslim communities, and many have loved ones in the region.
The governor said that while there were no known threats, the MTA and Port Authority are preparing for counterterrorism action, while state police are patrolling at houses of worship.
