E-scooter fatally plows into pedestrian on NYC street: cops

A tragic incident occurred on Saturday evening as a 58-year-old pedestrian, Jose Luis Gomez-Guallazaca, was struck and killed by an e-scooter in Staten Island. The crash happened around 7:40 p.m. on Targee Street, outside of the designated crosswalk, when a 25-year-old man operated the electric ride. Despite being thrown from the scooter himself, the operator survived and is in stable condition. Gomez-Guallazaca suffered extensive trauma and was pronounced dead shortly after at Richmond University Medical Center. No charges have been filed as the investigation remains ongoing.
