Parental leave in the U.S. is subpar, being the only developed country without guaranteed paid leave for parents. While some employers offer generous policies, many employees are left without support. Paternity leave is especially limited, with U.K. fathers entitled to a mere two weeksâ the least in Europe. In response, The Dad Shift, an organization advocating for better paternity leave, is leading the first Dad Strike on June 11 to pressure employers for improved policies, aiming to highlight the necessity of equitable leave for all parents to benefit families and society.
The UK's statutory paternity leave is bad. Really bad. In fact, it's the worst in Europe. There's now loads of evidence that this is bad for everyone: mums, dads, kids, and society as a whole.
Unfortunately, across the pond, fathers in the U.K. are entitled to 2 weeks of guaranteed paternity leave - the least in all of Europe. Like, it's better than ours but it sure ain't great.
