On June 11, 2025, the MTA, alongside BMX athlete Nigel Sylvester, unveiled new initiatives to combat subway surfing during a press conference in Long Island City. Building on the existing Ride Inside, Stay Alive campaign, the initiative introduces illustrated comics and high-school recordings to vividly portray the dangers of subway surfing. These comics not only show the decision-making process of kids contemplating subway surfing but also highlight the broader impact on families, friends, and emergency responders, with Sylvester’s image reinforcing the campaign's message throughout.
The initiative builds on the MTA's existing Ride Inside Stay Alive campaign, using colorful comics to depict the dangers and community impact of subway surfing.
MTA Chief Customer Officer Shanifah Rieara noted the importance of this campaign in preventing dangerous subway surfing incidents, emphasizing community involvement.
