Since early 2025, over 20 Planned Parenthood clinics across seven states have closed or plan to close, largely due to funding cuts from the Trump administration. These closures threaten reproductive health services like contraception and STI testing, following a freeze on Title X funds that affected multiple affiliates. Shireen Ghorbani, interim president of Planned Parenthood Association of Utah, expressed concern over the diminished access to public health amid these decisions, particularly noting that $2.8 million of Title X funding was cut, severely impacting their operations and causing layoffs.
The ways in which this administration is dismantling access to public health and public health information are really troubling and, frankly, force us to make these difficult decisions very quickly.
Last year, 26,000 Utahns received Title X-funded care at Planned Parenthood.
In late March, the Trump administration suddenly froze tens of millions of dollars in funding for nine Planned Parenthood affiliates.
Planned Parenthood closures have occurred or are in the works across six affiliates that maintain clinics in Illinois, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, New York, Utah and Vermont.
