New York Attorney General Letitia James donated $6,300 worth of baby formula to families in Brooklyn following an investigation into Paragon USA & Co. for price gouging. The investigation arose due to significant price hikes on baby formula during the nationwide shortage linked to Abbott Laboratories' production issues. The settlement includes a $10,000 penalty and a $35,000 commitment for future donations to support families. The donated formula will specifically aid low-income families struggling through the economic impacts of the pandemic, facilitated by local organizations serving diverse communities.
"Taking advantage of a crisis to squeeze extra profits from families who are struggling to feed their children is not only heartless, it's illegal," said James.
"Empowering survivors of domestic violence and supporting low-income families is not just an act of charity-it is a fundamental step toward building a just and compassionate society," said Somia Elrowmeim.
