Miami Beach is contemplating a new text message system that would notify residents when their cars are at risk of being towed. This initiative, proposed by City Commissioner Alex Fernandez, aims to provide a 15-minute grace period following a parking citation. The alerts would target non-life safety violations and will be exclusive to residents enrolled in a parking discount program, thereby excluding tourists. The approach seeks to mitigate towing incidents and align with common sense practices in municipal management.
It's just a common sense procedure. The goal shouldn't be to have to tow the resident. You just want to make sure that the car is moved.
The notifications would not be provided for safety-related violations like parking in a fire lane, blocking lanes of traffic, illegally using a disabled parking space.
