Yacht Rock Revue Charts a Course for Success
Briefly

Yacht Rock Revue is a ten-member band from Atlanta dedicated to the yacht rock genre, which blends soft rock from 1976-1984. Initially born from a one-off show, the band has gained significant traction, captivating audiences even in landlocked cities. The term 'yacht rock' was popularized by a 2005 online series, but the genre represents more than music; it encompasses emotions and leisure. Nick Niespodziani, the band's leader, embraces a flexible definition of the genre, suggesting it's about the music one would want to hear while enjoying life on a yacht.
"Yacht rock is whatever we say it is," he asserts with a smile. "It's in our interest for the definition to be as all-encompassing as possible."
"If you want to be pedantic about it, it's soft rock music made between 1976 and 1984 by a certain group of session musicians in Southern California," he explains.
Years after its peak, a 2005 online video series directed by J. D. Ryznar coined the term "yacht rock" to describe a kind of emotionally superficial, adult-oriented rock.
The juggernaut enterprise grew out of a planned one-off show. In 2007, Niespodziani's indie rock band landed a weekly gig in the basement of a bar in Atlanta's hip Virginia.
