Watch Turnstile's awesome cover of The Stone Roses' "I Wanna Be Adored" for 'Like A Version'
"I love this song. It's one of my favorite songs of all time. It's unconventional and simple and very just beautiful. We've done covers for years. Typically, we've not recorded a lot of them, but we've done a lot of covers, different covers live, different bands. But this was a different experience 'cause we actually kind of got to actually lay it down in a studio."
"We've done covers for years, typically, we've not recorded a lot of them, but we've done a lot of covers, different covers live, different bands. But this was a different experience 'cause we actually kind of got to actually lay it down in a studio. And it was cool. It felt good to kind of... especially when on tour and you're playing your songs every night, to break from that and play someone else's."
Turnstile performed a cover of The Stone Roses' classic 'I Wanna Be Adored' for triple j's Like A Version series. Brendan Yates selected the song because he loves it and considers it one of his favorite songs, praising its unconventional, simple, and beautiful qualities. Guitarist Meg Mills noted the choice also paid tribute to late Stone Roses bassist Gary 'Mani' Mournfield. Yates explained that while Turnstile has performed many covers live over the years, this studio recording provided a different experience, allowing them to break from their regular touring routine and explore another artist's work. The band successfully maintained the original's essence while infusing it with their own style. They also performed their original song 'Sunshower' for the series.
