A striking 12-foot bronze sculpture by Thomas J. Price has been installed in Times Square. Named 'Grounded in the Stars', this public art piece will be on display until June 17 and aims to challenge conventional views of identity and representation. The sculpture, which contrasts sharply with nearby male statues, features a woman dressed in everyday clothing and draws forms from various cultural sources. Additionally, Price's companion project, 'Man Series', will showcase stop-motion animations on neighborhood billboards in May, expanding the artwork's reach and engagement with the public.
The intention of my public works is to become part of the place they inhabit and its physical, material history, as well as the visitors that pass through.
Grounded in the Stars confronts preconceived notions of identity and representation, inviting passersby to engage with its themes.
