The El Sol Brillante Garden hosted its semi-annual fundraiser, successfully taking place after two rain cancellations. Members celebrated with food and music under perfect weather, reflecting the garden's transformation from a rubble-filled lot into a thriving community space with individual and communal plots. Longtime member Alexis Adler emphasized the community's growth and spirit, while vice president Frankie Vigilante highlighted the importance of local music. The event underscored the garden's role as a beloved oasis in the East Village, fostering camaraderie among its members.
"The day was such a great feeling of community togetherness," recalls Alexis Adler, who has been tending her plot at El Sol Brillante Garden for 30 years, highlighting the garden's growth and transformation from a rubble-filled lot to a community oasis.
"The garden has changed tremendously since I became a member 40 years ago," reflects Alexis Adler. The once rubble-filled area is now a vibrant community space with 29 individual plots and 8 community areas.
Frankie Vigilante, vice president of the garden for 26 years, says he has curated the entertainment for the get-togethers over the past decade, citing how engaging local musicians brings people together.
"Saturday afternoon served up perfect weather for the mix of food, music and camaraderie that went on from noon to moon, as they like to say," summarizing the essence of the fundraiser's success.
