Robert Dunne, a 50-year-old attorney from New York, passed away peacefully. He was the son of Ben Dunne, who died on holiday in Dubai. Robert is survived by his mother Mary, sister Caroline, and brothers Mark and Nicholas. Influenced by his father's experiences, Robert pursued a law career, worked at the National Centre for Institutions and Alternatives, and later established a solo practice in Manhattan. He produced a podcast reflecting on mental health and music. He expressed pride in his father's legacy despite past mistakes.
Speaking to the Sunday Independent in 2024, Robert said it was the first-hand experience of the aftermath of his father's 1992 arrest in Florida that influenced his decision to pursue a career in law.
After law school, he was sponsored to work at the Washington-based National Centre for Institutions and Alternatives (NCIA), one of the agencies used to prepare a "mitigation report" for his father.
Robert expressed no recriminations about what had happened in his father's life, stating, "I would just want to tell him that we couldn't have had a better father. Yes, you made lots of mistakes, but you owned all of them."
