A non-union revival of the iconic musical A Chorus Line is set to honor its 50th anniversary with a unique staging at The Loft New York from September 5-27. Instead of a traditional theatre setting, the performance will be site-specific, taking place in a rehearsal studio. Directed by Alex Kopnick, with choreography by Reed Luplau, this innovative approach aims to provide audiences with an immersive experience of the audition process depicted in the original musical, which has won numerous awards including Tony Awards and a Pulitzer Prize.
A Chorus Line is the ultimate look into the sacrifices that dancers make in pursuit of their dreams. In celebration of the musical's 50th anniversary, I want audiences to experience A Chorus Line from the inside out by subverting the traditional staging.
Originally directed and choreographed by Bennett, Broadway long-runner A Chorus Line takes place at an audition for a Broadway dance chorus, with the unseen director-choreographer asking his chorus line of hopefuls to share their most personal and raw stories.
