NY, NJ keep pushing lawsuit to break up Ticketmaster owner Live Nation
"We will keep fighting this case without the federal government so that we can secure justice for all those harmed by Live Nation's monopoly. The settlement recently announced does not adequately remedy the harms to the marketplace for live music and to concertgoers caused by Live Nation."
"The settlement announced Monday would require Live Nation to pay a fine of up to $280 million and divest itself of at least 13 amphitheaters across the country. The lawsuit accused Live Nation of monopolizing virtually every aspect of the live music industry, from concert promotion to venue ownership."
New York and New Jersey attorneys general have rejected the U.S. Department of Justice's settlement with Live Nation, vowing to continue their antitrust lawsuit independently. The federal settlement, announced Monday, requires Live Nation to pay up to $280 million in fines and divest at least 13 amphitheaters. New York Attorney General Letitia James and New Jersey Attorney General Jennifer Davenport argue the settlement fails to address the core monopoly issues. Both officials stated they will pursue the case with support from more than two dozen other states. The original lawsuit, filed in May 2024, accuses Ticketmaster and parent company Live Nation of monopolizing the live music industry, harming competitors, artists, and consumers.
