NJ Transit has announced it will suspend bus and rail service to MetLife Stadium for upcoming Shakira concerts on May 15 and 16, amid reports of a potential workers' strike by transit engineers. This unprecedented strike, which would be the first since 1983, threatens to disrupt travel for thousands of concertgoers. The agency is currently in mediation with the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers union in hopes of averting the strike. The situation could also impact an upcoming series of concerts by Beyoncé at the same venue, set to begin shortly after Shakira's shows.
Due to the potential rail service stoppage, NJ TRANSIT will not be operating train or bus service to MetLife Stadium for the Shakira concerts on May 15th and 16th.
If the strike happens, it would be the first for the Garden State-owned bus and rail service since 1983.
Around 800,000 passengers take NJ Transit buses and trains on a typical day, translating to about 270 million riders annually.
Depending on how long a strike drags on, it could also impact Beyoncé's MetLife tour dates.
