Musical composition honoring pandemic loss to be played every hour at Brooklyn Botanic Garden * Brooklyn Paper
Briefly

To commemorate the fifth anniversary of the COVID-19 pandemic, Brooklyn Botanic Garden will host an hourly musical piece titled 'loved.' This heartfelt composition encourages reflection for individuals mourning loved ones lost to the pandemic. Created by notable composer Michael Gordon, the piece resonates deeply, recognizing the enduring impact of the more than 46,000 COVID-related deaths in New York. By playing from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. until the end of the month, the initiative aims to honor victims and provide a moment of collective remembrance and healing for the community.
When we did it originally, we were still in the pandemic and I think the wound was really fresh and for some people and that wound still is fresh [for] people who lost close family members, loved ones.
In this city so filled with many different people, the common thread of those lost to Covid was that they were loved.
As a way to reach out to those impacted by loss, to those seeking a few moments to sit and think and remember, I sought to create a space where the memory of those loved ones could be honored.
The composition will play from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., once each hour, through the end of the month.
