Movie-Themed Dance Nights Arrive In New York City This June
Briefly

This summer, New York City will host unique events celebrating two iconic dance films, 'Dirty Dancing' and 'Center Stage'. A rooftop party will feature the Borscht Belt theme from 'Dirty Dancing' in Brooklyn, while Manhattan will host a masterclass and interactive screening to honor 'Center Stage' on its 25th anniversary. The masterclass, led by choreographer Susan Stroman, will cover the film's signature jazz routine, culminating in a viewing party complete with a costume contest and special activities, highlighting the authentic representation of dancers and New York City in the film.
‘Dance is the star of the movie. Much of the choreography is shot head to toe, so the camera takes the time to honor the body of the dancer.’
‘I think Center Stage remains beloved today because it was one of the first dance movies to give an honest depiction of the life of a professional dancer in New York City.’
