Our Wicked Lady, a popular venue and rehearsal space in East Williamsburg, will close on July 21, coinciding with its 10th anniversary. Co-owner Zach Glass expressed deep sentiment over the closure, emphasizing the venue's role in the community. Opened in 2015, the venue transformed a basic storage space into a hub for indie music, hosting many bands. However, rising costs, increased insurance rates, and declining patronage have challenged its viability, despite efforts to save it, including a GoFundMe campaign that raised $42,000.
It's been one of the great privileges of my life to open and run Our Wicked Lady and be a focal point for this community. I know that I'm really gonna miss it.
When we got our building, it was, like, a dirt floor downstairs... we just, we had to do everything.
It's just gotten so expensive and, you know, people just don't go out as much. They don't drink as much. All those factors come into play.
I hope that it stays in people's minds as an example of going for your dreams.
