Following the kickoff of Beyoncé's "COWBOY CARTER" tour, CEO James Dolan of Sphere Entertainment objected to a video interlude featuring Beyoncé interacting with the Sphere venue. He sent a cease and desist letter claiming unauthorized use of Sphere imagery, which has led to speculation about a potential residency. Previously, discussions for a residency collapsed over rehearsal demands. Sphere has given a deadline for compliance, threatening further legal action if not met.
In a letter to Beyoncé's production company, Dolan's attorney Kathleen McCarthy accused her of "impermissible use and violation" of Sphere Entertainment Group's (SEG) intellectual property.
Beyoncé - many orders of magnitude larger than the Sphere venue - leans over, picks up the venue, and looms over it, reads the letter's description of the video.
Failure to comply would result in the company taking "further action as SEG deems appropriate without notice," as stated by SEG's imposed deadline.
Beyoncé was reportedly in talks for a residency at Sphere, which fell apart over her request for the venue to go dark for rehearsals.
