"Rousouli first performed on Broadway in Hairspray in 2008 as teen heartthrob Link Larkin, going on to appear in Ghost and Wicked. Though Rousouli has always looked the part of a leading man, he's said the theater industry forced him to tone down his queerness in order to book those roles."
""I couldn't be anything like myself. I was always put up for the Danny Zuko-types or the Jets or the teenage jock, where I had to play it all very straight," Rousouli told People in a recent interview. "My agents would be like, 'Hey, we're going to need you to butch it up a little bit for this audition.' I had to watch my Ps and Qs. I couldn't be too flamboyant.""
"He added that his sexuality initially put him in a box. "People have a hard time seeing past their perception," he said"
"In 2017, the three originally conceived of Titanique as a one-night-only event in Los Angeles, but it's since had full productions off-Broadway, on the West End, and in countries including Australia, Canada, France and Brazil. It's all led up to the musical opening on Broadway earlier this year."
Titanique is a Broadway musical parodying the 1997 film Titanic with songs by Celine Dion and a demented narrator. Constantine Rousouli stars as Jack and co-wrote the production with Marla Mindelle and director Tye Blue. The idea began nine years earlier as a one-night-only event in Los Angeles and later expanded into full productions off-Broadway, on the West End, and internationally. Rousouli views the Broadway opening as more than a comeback, describing it as the first time he has been allowed to be fully authentic on stage. He previously performed on Broadway in Hairspray, Ghost, and Wicked, but said industry expectations forced him to tone down his queerness to book roles.
