The New Parish, an Oakland concert venue that closed in December 2025 after not renewing its annual health permit, has been listed for sale. The building is under contract with new owners who plan to keep it as an arts venue, though their names were not provided. The closure followed a Pay or Close notice posted by Alameda County Environmental Health Department after permit fees were not paid. The venue had been known for its unusual layout, including a runway extending into the crowd and a balcony with views downward. In fall 2025, multiple scheduled concerts were relocated or canceled, signaling winding down before the permit expired.
"Jamie Flaherty-Evans of Chromata Real Estate confirmed that the New Parish's building was put up for sale. According to Flaherty-Evans, the New Parish is under contract with new owners, who plan to keep it an arts venue. Flaherty-Evans did not give names of the new owners."
"Jericho DeGuzman, a spokesperson for Alameda County Health, confirmed the New Parish's closure to SFGATE in January. The New Parish did not renew its annual health permit, which expired on Nov. 23, 2025. The Alameda County Environmental Health Department posted a Pay or Close notice on the front door, informing the venue that it would be closed if it did not pay its permit fees. The venue officially closed on Dec. 17, 2025, DeGuzman wrote in an email to SFGATE."
"In its lifespan of more than 15 years, locals appreciated the venue for its unusual layout. Performers like JPEGMAFIA could walk into the crowd on a short runway that extended from the stage, and fans could peer down from the balcony above. (At one show last year, a fan standing in the club's balcony area accidentally dumped his entire drink on a touring drummer's head.)"
"Even before its permit expired, the New Parish showed signs of winding down its operations. In the fall of 2025 several concerts at the club were relocated to other Bay Area venues or canceled. Maruja's Oct. 5 concert was moved to Cornerstone in Berkeley; Y La Bamba's Nov. 7 show was moved to Crybaby. Rose City Band, which was scheduled to play at the venue on Dec. 11, ended up playing at Cafe Du Nord in San Francisco instead. Rapper Benny the Butcher was supposed to perform on Nov. 2, but his concert was canceled."
