Pizza Hut remains the second-largest pizza chain but has seen same-store sales flat or falling for years, with a 7% drop in overall U.S. sales in 2025 outside pandemic delivery gains. Yum Brands plans to close 250 locations and is considering selling the chain. Retro dine-in elements from the 1980s and 1990s—salad bars, buffets, and Tiffany-style lamps—are being revived, with more than 140 locations retrofitted as “Pizza Hut Classics.” Customers also want pan pizza served in warm cast-iron pans to recreate the sizzling delivery and crispy crust.
