The inaugural goat grazing contest in New York City, held at Riverside Park, involved five rescue goats competing to eat the most mugwort in five minutes. The event, sanctioned by Major League Eating, saw Mallomar crowned the winner with three full packets eaten, while Kash failed to eat at all. The competition served not only as entertainment, but also contributed positively to the environment as goats help eliminate invasive plants. Additionally, visitors enjoyed live music and food, reflecting the event's lively atmosphere.
At three full packets, just a quarter more than the runner-up, Mallomar won the title of GOAT grazer. Spectators rallied behind their favorite rescue goats during the competition.
Merritt Birnbaum, president and CEO of Riverside Park Conservancy, says goats are a chemical-free way of killing invasive plants in the park through their yearly program called 'Goatham'.
