Musings: LIRR's taking parking spots is shortsighted
Briefly

The LIRR's plan to eliminate car parking spaces for Port Washington commuters is a misguided decision that overlooks the needs of its customers. As the authority claims the need for more parking spaces for train cars due to the Grand Central Madison station, it has failed to address where those displaced commuters will park. The anticipated improvements in service have also yet to be solidified, leaving community members concerned.
With the increase in commuting as remote work decreases, the shrinking availability of precious parking is alarming for those that rely on the LIRR. Once these parking spots are gone, they cannot be reclaimed. The proposal to centralize services at stations like Woodside instead of Citi Field might be a way to alleviate some of the congestion, but more comprehensive solutions need to be on the table.
