Jose Andres Livens Up a Manhattan Spot With Moody Lighting and Barbacoa
Briefly

Hudson Yards has continually adapted since its 2019 launch, particularly following COVID-19 disruptions. Renowned chef José Andrés recently closed Spanish Diner and another establishment to introduce Oyamel, a new, vibrant restaurant focused on authentic Mexican dishes. Located in the heart of Hudson Yards, Oyamel's menu features an array of tacos, ceviches, and traditional dishes designed for sharing, emphasizing a communal dining experience. This reimagined venue draws inspiration from its successful D.C. counterpart, aiming to create a unique culinary ambiance and experience while showcasing bold flavors and ingredients.
In December, Andrés announced he was closing both Spanish Diner and Leña to flip them into new restaurants that will open this year. Today, he opens Oyamel in the former, revamped into a sexier spot serving a collection of ceviches, tacos, and lamb barbacoa for two.
The menu starts with guacamole made to order ($18) as well as a ceviche bar with a tomato or shrimp aguachile ($18, $20). Among soup and salad, there's a deconstructed gazpacho jazzed up with pineapple and mango.
