The New York City Department of Buildings slapped the hardcore haven with a $25,000 fine, stating that the bar's 70-year-old certificate of occupancy only allowed for its use as a storefront and storage. This led to the decision not to reopen Saint Vitus Bar, a beloved venue that hosted numerous iconic performances.
"It was one of the hot spots for heavier music... If you got to play [St. Vitus], it felt like a pretty important event," musician Kyler Sane remarked, highlighting the impact of the venue in the music community as a gathering place for both local and renowned metal artists.
Saint Vitus Bar, named after the Black Sabbath song, showcased metal, punk, and rock bands, creating a rich cultural experience over its 13-year history, fostering connections among musicians across various levels.
