Fabled restaurant Nello is set to reopen in a new Midtown location after its closure last year. Celebrity-endorsed and once a gathering spot for A-listers, it will span 2,300 square feet on the ground floor and feature outdoor seating. Real estate mogul Thomas Makkos, who previously ran the restaurant, signed the lease for its new venue. The aim is to attract its former star patrons, such as J.Lo and Uma Thurman, enhancing its reputation with a prime location despite some controversy surrounding its previous operations during COVID.
"Nello is an institution and it needed a prime location that reflects its reputation," said Meridian Retail Leasing president James Famularo, whose firm brokered the deal.
"If you ever wanted a plate of pasta that cost $275, with a side of Beyoncé and Jay Z, then you went to Nello," Page Six wrote when Balan died in 2023.
