A new New York City rule will put "warning statements" on sugary chain restaurant items
Briefly

"We want to give people an opportunity to understand how much sugar they are consuming every day," said City Councilmember Keith Powers, underlining the intent behind the Sweet Truth Act.
"We've seen single items in chain food businesses be in excess of the daily recommended amount, so we think that New Yorkers should have an opportunity to know what they are consuming each time they walk into one of these stores," Powers stated.
The city's health department will enforce the Sweet Truth Act, ensuring that chains will face fines if they fail to implement the new warning labels.
The new rules come as many Americans are becoming more mindful of hidden sugars and ultra-processed foods, reflecting a growing public health awareness.
