Sing, a Hong Kong-style cafe, opens at 182 Bleecker Street, between MacDougal and Sullivan streets, on Thursday. The restaurant serves foods found at cha chaan tengs, the casual diners from Hong Kong. The menu has pasta with tomato sauce, slippery eggs over rice, sugary bears that dissolve into drinks, and fried pineapple bun sandwiches. Most items on the menu cost under $15. The cafe chain started overseas in 2020 and now has 16 locations in China, plus one that opened this year at the Tangram Mall in Flushing. The restaurants are owned by Rice Noodle Inc., the company behind Asia Rice Noodles, which opened this fall in Greenpoint.
A decades-old takeout counter is back open Rakka, a small restaurant known for its affordable sandwiches, has had locations in the East Village since the 1980s. One on Avenue B closed over a decade ago; another on St. Marks Place closed during the pandemic. The restaurant is now back. It's selling falafel ($6.50) and chicken shawarma ($9) sandwiches from a small storefront at 156 First Avenue, between Ninth and Tenth streets, EV Grieve reports. Opening hours are 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
A new spot from the owners of Blue Willow The team behind the popular Sichuan spots Blue Willow and Ye's Apothecary is opening a new restaurant. Red Sorghum, a Hunan restaurant with a baijiu bar, is opening in Long Island City, Queens, this winter at 28-03 Jackson Avenue and 42nd Road, in the development attached to the Jacx & Co. food hall.
