Stonewall wasn't the first LGBTQ+ uprising; there were earlier demonstrations at Cooper's Donuts, Black Cat Bar, Compton's Cafeteria, and Independence Hall.
Numerous eyewitness accounts exist, with reports of police closing the bar, arresting employees, and behaving poorly towards patrons during the Stonewall riots.
