Poppers are facing increased scrutiny as the FDA begins enforcing stricter regulations against their production and sale. Recently, popular brands like Double Scorpio have ceased operations following government actions, including search and seizures. Historically marketed under alternative names like nail polish remover, these substances have evaded strict regulations, although they are primarily inhaled for euphoric effects. The latest crackdown comes amidst criticism from HHS leadership, raising questions about the future of this product in the marketplace, particularly among its LGBTQ+ consumer base.
"Double Scorpio has stopped all operations following a search and seizure at our offices by the FDA," it wrote.
"As a matter of policy, the FDA does not comment on possible criminal investigations," an FDA spokesperson wrote to Fast Company.
