A demonstration will take place on March 31 to honor drag queen Heklina, aiming to spotlight perceived homophobia within the Metropolitan Police. Peaches Christ announced the protest via Instagram, calling for justice for Heklina and victims of police discrimination. Heklina, who died under mysterious circumstances in April 2023, brought attention to a March report revealing institutional issues within the Met. Notable speakers, including fellow drag performers, will advocate for the LGBTQ+ community during the event as public dissatisfaction with police responses persists.
"We demand justice for Heklina and every person treated unfairly by London's Metropolitan Police as a result of that force's homophobia," Peaches wrote.
Detective Chief Superintendent Christina Jessah said she appreciated Grannell and Heklina's friends had been frustrated by the pace of the investigation.
