According to multiple media outlets, the Russian Justice Ministry has labeled the LGBTQ+ rights movement as "extremist" and filed a lawsuit to ban it.
The law takes away numerous rights from trans people, with advocates saying it will lead to suicide as trans people feel "hopeless and trapped."
According to the BBC, an LGBTQ+ activist in Russia said that the ban would make it impossible for LGBTQ+ organizations to operate.
