Robert F. Kennedy Jr., head of the Department of Health and Human Services, is targeting poppers, a party drug popular in the LGBTQ+ community. Following an FDA seizure, Double Scorpio, a prominent poppers manufacturer, ceased operations. Kennedy has controversially stated that poppers could cause AIDS, despite lacking substantial evidence. This crackdown aligns with broader concerns about the legality and safety of poppers, which remain in a legal grey area. Other manufacturers face similar scrutiny, signaling a shift in regulatory focus under the Trump administration.
Kennedy has previously said that he believes poppers cause AIDS, although there is no evidence for this claim.
According to Out, the firm wiped its social media and its posted statement added: "Thank you to everyone who has supported us these last eight years."
We are very proud that we managed to build a brand that people trust and we don't want to see that trust exploited.
Other popper companies, including PacWest Distributing, which produced the popular brand Rush, have also been hit by the crackdown.
