Orlando to honor victims, commune with survivors on 9th anniversary of Pulse shooting
Briefly

Nine years after the tragic shooting at Pulse nightclub, Orlando leaders, survivors, and victims' families gathered to remember the 49 lives lost. Mayor Buddy Dyer reaffirmed the city's commitment to unity and hope for the LGBTQ+ community. A site initially planned for a museum will now feature a monument, including reflecting pools and columns honoring the victims. Community support has shifted towards this simpler memorial after previous disputes over the onePULSE Foundation's plans. Additionally, Orange County allocated $5 million to the new project.
Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer emphasized, "Although nine years have passed, it remains so important that our community continues to remember the 49 lives taken..."
The city took control of the Pulse nightclub site in 2023, following disagreements with the onePULSE Foundation over a museum, shifting towards a space for reflection.
