NYU is facing backlash for withholding Logan Rozos' diploma following his graduation speech where he condemned the U.S. role in Gaza's ongoing conflict. Rozos, a gay Black trans man, spoke passionately about the genocide, which he deemed supported by U.S. policies. Although applauded by the audience, the university claims he violated speech protocols by delivering unapproved remarks. NYU officials labeled his comments as personal and one-sided political views, leading to indefinite withholding of his diploma and potential disciplinary action.
Rozos stated, 'The genocide currently occurring is supported politically and militarily by the United States, is paid for by our tax dollars, and has been livestreamed to our phones for the past 18 months.'
NYU's John Beckman responded, stating, 'NYU is deeply sorry that the audience was subjected to these remarks and that this moment was stolen by someone who abused a privilege that was conferred upon him.'
