Two Mexican nationals, Ricardo Daniel Mondragon Leal and Jose Prudencio Diaz, are facing deportation after allegedly molesting a 14-year-old boy on a Royal Caribbean cruise. The incident prompted swift action from Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, who labeled the men 'sickos' and pledged to remove them from the U.S. Both men entered a sauna where the boy was present, exposing themselves and proceeding to molest him. With charges including lewd and lascivious behavior and Diaz being HIV positive, prosecutors seek to ensure they remain detained due to the risk of repeat offenses.
Diaz was also charged with having sex without disclosing an HIV infection.
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem vowed to remove them from the country, calling the men 'sickos' after the reported assault on the teenager.
The ICE detainer means local police have been asked to hold the men even if they would otherwise be let go.
Prosecutors expressed concern that the men targeted a specific minor, fearing potential for similar offenses.
