Inside a Mid-Century Beach House For a Non-Nuclear Family in Fire Island
Briefly

BOND, an architecture firm based in Manhattan, has designed 13 homes in Fire Island Pines, a historically gay summer retreat. Founders Noam Dvir and Daniel Rauchwerger, who have a personal connection to the community, aimed to blend culture, gender, ecology, and architecture in their designs. Their own residence features transparent areas for social interaction while maintaining privacy for guests. The firm seeks to honor the legacy of queer architects and redefine coastal architecture with modern elements, reflected in the choice of materials and design principles that resonate with the local environment.
There's this incredible, flamboyant modernism in the Pines, some of which is really avant-garde. We are continuing the legacy of queer architects working here.
What we created is a house that you can see through. But if somebody downstairs wants to sneak out in the middle of the night to go meet somebody, it's more private.
