G-A-Y Bar, a prominent LGBTQ+ venue in Soho, is now available for annual rent of £410,000. Owner Jeremy Joseph cites a challenging Soho landscape influenced by the closure of sister venue, G-A-Y Late, and financial strain from the temporary closure of Heaven nightclub, which was shut by the Metropolitan Police following serious allegations involving a bouncer. Despite its reopening, Joseph expresses that the financial and mental toll from these events has been irreparable, making the decision to sell difficult as he has lived above the bar for over 15 years.
This isn't an easy decision, to me this is more than just a bar, it's also my home, I've lived above it for over 15 years, but it's now time to make some changes.
I was clear to Westminster CC's Licensing committee that if they closed Heaven for even a short time it would potentially put G-A-Y Bar at risk financially.
