The PUBLIC hotel has unveiled an Instagrammable art installation, 'Down the Rabbit Hole', a life-sized, rideable carousel created by artist Pose in collaboration with Ian Schrager. Inspired by 1980s New York graffiti and vibrant storybooks, the carousel combines visual storytelling and nostalgia with Pose's signature comic-book and pop art style. The installation invites participation, allowing patrons to engage deeply with the artwork while exploring themes of urban life. With its colorful aesthetics and layers of metaphor, 'Down the Rabbit Hole' offers both a vibrant escape and a reflective experience, available through August.
New York was my amusement ride," says Pose, who embedded personal memories into the piece. "I don't want to give too much away cause it's meant to be explored and owned experientially by the viewers and riders.
Pose's signature style fuses comic book flourishes with pop art punch, resulting in a dreamy yet gritty aesthetic that feels both nostalgic and entirely new.
The installation doubles as a mini escape amidst downtown chaos, with flowers cracking through concrete and metaphorical emergency axes symbolizing escape.
This public art piece transforms the familiar childhood ride into a riot of color, symbolism, and urban soul, inviting both locals and tourists to experience its layers.
