"'We had a few songs that we were like, 'These are really good, these are genius, and we are the Spice Girls slash Destiny's Child,' said singer Ayden Mayeri in the documentary, on which she served as director."
"The backing track is made up of hypnotic lo-fi drum machines, plus a few minimal bass notes, a dissonant piano and what sounds like a tortured saxophone."
X-Cetra, a group of girls aged 9 to 11, recorded 'Stardust' in 2000, which later gained a cult following. Their song 'Summer 2000' features lo-fi drum machines and haunting vocals. The group, living suburban lives, created music inspired by pop stars. Their mother, Robin O'Brien, helped produce the album with a German music producer, resulting in a unique sound blending electronica and trip hop. A documentary about their journey premiered at South by Southwest, winning a jury award.
