ear announce new album 'Rumspringa'
"When they first began making Rumspringa, the band wanted to create a "choose life" record. The title "Rumspringa" refers to a period in the lives of Amish teenagers when they are permitted to engage in activities typically prohibited by Amish life (i.e. Sex, drugs, electricity for non-farm-labor purposes, etc). This tradition allows those engaged in Rumspringa to gain context about the outside world before deciding whether to remain Amish."
"The period of Rumspringa acts as a metaphorical framework for thinking about what "choose life" means. The complications involve how destructive or beautiful the decision to pursue personal independence is."
"We don't have cover art or a tracklist for Rumspringa yet; stay tuned. The announcement follows the release of "Ne Plus Ultra," their first single of the year, earlier this month, and they released their debut album, the 16 and a half minute The Most Dear and the Future, last year."
ear, a New York glitch pop duo, announced their second album Rumspringa, scheduled for May 29 via A24 Music. The album title references the Amish tradition of Rumspringa, a period when Amish teenagers may engage in activities usually prohibited by Amish life, such as sex, drugs, and non-farm-labor electricity. The tradition provides context about the outside world before deciding whether to remain Amish. The album uses this period as a metaphorical framework for what “choose life” means, focusing on the complications of pursuing personal independence, including how it can be destructive or beautiful. No cover art or tracklist has been released yet. The announcement follows the single “Ne Plus Ultra” and the debut album The Most Dear and the Future.
