Next year marks Little Dragon's 30th anniversary, and frontwoman Yukimi Nagano releases her debut solo album, 'For You'. The lead single 'Break Me Down' highlights her airy vocals amidst a pop sound that's influenced by 70s soul and 90s nu-jazz. Tracks like 'Winter Is Not Dead' and 'No Prince' demonstrate her ability to weave personal experiences into accessible music. Nagano emphasizes the relatable nature of her lyrics, creating an engaging auditory experience that merges personal narratives with a collective sentiment of hope and resilience.
It seems barely credible, but next year is Little Dragon's 30th birthday. Although Yukimi Nagano has fronted the Swedish electronic dance act since she was at school, For You is her first solo album.
Strength-through-suffering gem Break Me Down is an excellent lead single, a filigree of a pop song freewheeling on Yukimi's enticing, airy vocal.
Each individual taste may not last long on the tongue but the flavours combine into something sweetly pleasurable. This sentiment shines through her work.
Still, she says that when songwriting is personal, it also becomes very accessible, because we're not that different from one another.
