With a raw new album, D.C. indie duo Grlztoy grow into themselves
Briefly

In their new album 'Blue!', Grlztoy, an indie duo formed by Theo Z and Molly Izer, embodies a sense of catharsis amidst the grayness of late winter 2025. The title track showcases Theo Z's plea for space and time, expressing a deep emotional resonance with listeners who share similar feelings of angst. The album represents a natural evolution from their earlier work, with Izer highlighting a reflective approach to their own grief and personal narratives. Their collaboration began at George Mason University, leading to an instantaneous musical chemistry that shaped their identity and style.
"I pulled out my poetry book, gave it to Theo and was like, 'I write sometimes, if you need lyrical inspiration.' And on the spot, this was our second time ever hanging out, Theo opened it up and started playing and singing my lyrics."
"I think 'Blue!' was the natural progression of what [Grlztoy EP] 'Green!' started as, which was us growing into ourselves. And now 'Blue!' is, 'We know who we are, now it's time to reflect within our own stories, our own grief, etc.'"
