Gojira became the first hard rock act to perform in an Olympic Games opening ceremony by presenting a metal rendition of Ah! Ca Ira, a song associated with the French Revolution, in collaboration with Victor le Masne and opera singer Marina Viotti.
Despite pressure to represent the metal community, Gojira maintained their signature sound, with Joe Duplantier emphasizing that the performance would be intense and unapologetically 'in your face.'
