Video: MGK Tore It All Down for His Art
Briefly

Self-destructive behavior drives the creative process for Machine Gun Kelly in his album Lost Americana. He openly acknowledges spending significant time in rehab before the album’s release. He feels the need to destroy aspects of his life to create art, stating that he often intentionally reaches low points for inspiration. Unlike previous persona, this album reflects authenticity without pretense. He expresses a newfound acceptance of his vulnerabilities and sensitivity, moving away from a polarizing image to embrace a deeper connection with his own emotions.
I spent Christmas and New Year's, the whole month of December and late November in a rehab facility. I say it on the first track of Lost Americana, where I said, All the pages are blank until my life goes to shit.
I’ve put so much weight on my art that I essentially am like, Oh, I’ll bleed out and die for this. There’s no beguiling on this album.
I think, though, when I’m at home at night, if you look at my astrological chart, it’s one of the most, like, sensitive charts that exist.
The truth is, it felt much more satiating to the broken boy that I have just now finally picked up, sat next to me and I’ve been like, I’m adopting you.
