Craig Finn of The Hold Steady is set to release a new album titled 'Always Been', produced by Adam Granduciel of The War on Drugs. The album features the War on Drugs as session musicians alongside guest vocalists Kathleen Edwards and Sam Fender. Finn describes this project as his most narrative work yet, focusing on the story of a clergyman experiencing a crisis of faith, detailing his rise, fall, and eventual redemption. The album is due for release on April 4, and Finn will support Bob Mould on tour.
I believe this to be the most narrative record I have made. Most songs concern a protagonist who pursued a career as a clergyman despite a lack of faith.
The record tells the story of his rise and fall and redemption, while also filling out the details of his travels and the world in which he lives.
